Due to freight transportation increase by 12% and passenger transportation by 4%, as well as thanks to increasing efficiency of additional services, VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” reached turnover of EUR 209.4 million in 2018, thus exceeding the previous year by 16%.

The exports of railway and the related marine shipping services reached EUR 741 million in 2018, thus creating a significant contribution to the external balance of payments. Along with that, the direct impact created by VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” through taxes paid to the State budget has also increased, reaching EUR 78.4 million.

2018 is marked by a significant policy planning document that has been approved for the first time in the history of VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” – the Indicative Railway Infrastructure Development Plan for 2018-2022 and the related multi-annual agreement signed by the company and the Ministry of Transport. These documents ensure predictability and stability for the transport and logistics industry for the consecutive five years.
